TRAGEDY has occurred as suspected kidnappers struck at about 8:45pm Tuesday, and abducted a breastfeeding mother in Town community in Brass Local Government Area of the state.

This incident is coming barely 24 hours after Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa state handed over fleet of newly commissioned security vehicles and gadgets to state police command to combat crime and criminality in the state.

The breastfeeding mother simply identified as Roselyn Okokingho, was nursing her child when the dare-devil kidnappers break into her resident and whisked her, leaving the baby into a waiting speedboat to an unknown destination.

As at press time, the reason for her abduction still remains unclear, as it is shredded in mystery with no clue at the moment.

It was learnt that the victim, was not living in affluent, rather she was just comfortable being able to feed herself and family from proceeds of farming, fishing and petty trade.

Though, unconfirmed report has it that her relations are well to do, as they hold key public offices in Abuja and other choice cities in the country, and that because she loved, her abductors felt they would comply with whatever amount mentioned for her ransom.

However, emotion has continued to pour from her neighbours, as they regretted her abduction, particularly because she is peaceful, gentle and always concerned about the wellbeing of younger and older persons around her; many could not fight back tears over her suckling baby.

They, therefore, called on the police and other security agencies in the state to apprehend the kidnappers and bring them to justice.

Also, Mr Ade Bakare, Chairman of the State Supreme Council of Non-Indigenes in a statement, lamented that the abduction of the lactating mother, whose baby has been denied of breast milk sequel to the separation, Bakare called on Bayelsa State Command of the Nigerian Police to do everything to secure the unconditional release of Roselyn to her family.

He said the matter has already being reported by the husband of the victim Pius Okokingho to the Police authorities in Brass. Bakare expressed confidence in the ability of the police to secure the release of Mrs Roselyn Okokingho and bring are abductor to justice.

The abduction was confirmed by a police source at the Brass Division of Police Command in Brass local government area. However, State police public Relation Officer (PPRO), DSP Asinim Butswat, declined to comment on the incident.
