In a groundbreaking move for the beauty industry in Nigeria, Susan Chanel Beauty has officially opened its first underground spa in Abuja. Founded by visionary entrepreneur Susan Esisi, the spa promises an immersive wellness experience that combines modern luxury with holistic care, designed specifically for the unique needs of African women.
Susan’s journey in the beauty industry began with her background in psychology, where she recognised the connection between beauty and self-perception. Her passion for skincare blossomed during her undergraduate years, as she helped friends address their skin concerns. This experience ignited a desire to create a skincare line dedicated to empowering women, particularly those of African descent, to embrace their natural beauty.
“In establishing Susan Chanel Beauty, I aimed to cater to the specific skincare needs of African women,” Susan explains. “Our focus on 100 percent herbal products stems from a belief in the healing power of nature, offering chemical-free alternatives that promote healthy skin.”
The underground spa concept was born from Susan’s desire to create a serene escape from the chaos of daily life. “I wanted to design a space where clients could fully relax and rejuvenate, free from distractions,” she says. The spa features natural elements and eco-friendly materials, enhancing the tranquil atmosphere while offering a range of signature treatments. These include body sculpting, breast-firming therapies, and natural weight loss solutions, all tailored to meet “the specific needs of African women’s skin and body concerns.”
The choice of location in Abuja reflects not only the upscale atmosphere of Wuse 2 but also the commitment to providing a retreat-like experience. “Our spa is strategically located for accessibility while maintaining a sense of exclusivity,” Susan said. “We wanted to create a sanctuary in the heart of the city that offers both luxury and tranquillity.”
With four existing branches in Lagos, Abuja, and Accra, Ghana, Susan Chanel Beauty is on a mission to expand its reach and impact. “Our goal is to empower women across Africa with high-quality skincare and wellness services that build confidence,” Susan emphasises. “The growing demand for our unique approach to beauty has motivated us to expand further, addressing the specific challenges that African women face.”
As a passionate advocate for women’s empowerment, Susan Chanel Beauty is dedicated to fostering confidence and self-love among its clientele. “Beauty is not just about appearance; it’s about how we feel inside,” Susan explained. Through holistic wellness treatments and a commitment to community support, the brand is making strides in uplifting women and promoting overall well-being.
Additionally, Susan has initiated an anti-hunger campaign that aligns with her brand values. “We recognise that beauty and self-care extend beyond skincare; they encompass overall health and dignity,” she states. The campaign focuses on raising awareness about hunger in underserved communities, particularly among women and children, and aims to provide nutritious meals to those in need.
As the beauty industry in Nigeria continues to evolve, Susan envisions a future where natural and sustainable products take centre stage. “Consumers are becoming more conscious about what they put on their skin,” she stressed. “We aim to lead this movement by offering clean, herbal solutions that celebrate African beauty.”
