Avoiding sugar can, without doubt, reduce your chances of getting diabetes. There is, however, no guarantee that you can prevent diabetes by avoiding sugar, for the following reasons; Genetic propensity can cause diabetes in spite of care. Processed foods can cause sugar spikes and diabetes. Excessive eating can lead to hyperglycemia and diabetes. Stress, tension and worry can trigger cortisol release. Cortisol suppresses the action of insulin and also influences liver to produce more glucose. This leads to hyperglycemia and diabetes. Sleep deprivation can cause stress and diabetes. Late night dinners are known to disrupt Circadian Rhythm which in turn can disturb metabolic system. Smoking and excessive alcohol are also known to increase risk of diabetes.
