The federal government has approved the provision of a N5 billion grant to each of the states of the federation to procure grains for distribution to mitigate the effects of petroleum subsidy removal.
Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, disclosed this while speaking on the outcome of the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at the presidential villa in Abuja on Thursday.
He said it was part of measures to bring temporary solutions to the high cost of living caused by the subsidy removal as the government continued to work on more enduring programmes.
He said the states are to purchase 100,000 bags of rice and beans among other items.
Zulum revealed that each state is to receive five trucks of rice.
