Style your tie the perfect way

A tie is a piece of cloth worn for decorative purposes around the neck. It rests under the shirt collar and knotted at the throat, often draped down the chest. In the world of men’s fashion, the tie stands as a quintessential accessory that holds the power to transform an outfit from ordinary to extraordinary. But with evolving dress codes and fashion trends, the question of how to opt for the right tie can sometimes feel like a sartorial puzzle.

A tie is often the first thing a person will notice about your look so when choosing your tie, you have to choose wisely as nothing ruins a good suit like a bad tie. Here are some valuable tips in choosing the right tie for your outfits.

Choose the right fabric – Just as it is when choosing your clothing so also it is with ties. You have to consider the fabric of your ties. It’s always on a safe side to go for a smooth and simple fabric. Silk ties can be worn for any occasion. Cashmere ties can be worn with casual office looks or on date nights. Wool ties are quite professional and perfect for business attire. It must be rocked with heavier-weight wool suits.

. Choose the right colour and pattern – If you’ve got a simple and plain suit, your tie can take centre stage but in case of a bold shirt or suit, make sure your tie is more subdued. With a white or light blue shirt, most tie colours are suitable. When mixing patterns, make sure they are not competing with each other. Always keep in mind that your outfit should only have one statement piece.

. Choose the perfect size – A 7cm tie is okay for suits that have a narrow lapel or that are quite trim but for a classic suit, 8 to 9cm is perfect. Anything smaller than that will look too skinny and outdated.

. Knot your tie to hit at the right length – Make sure the bottom of your tie lands near the middle of your belt or your trouser waistband when you’re standing naturally.

. Choose the right pocket square – In case you are wearing a pocket square, make sure your tie and pocket square never match but they should complement each other.

. You can wear a suit with no tie but never wear a tie without jacket – If you are opting for a shirt dress with no tie, make sure your collar is crisp and leave the top two buttons of your shirt unbuttoned. But if you’re not wearing a suit jacket or blazer, never should you wear a tie.
