In a major push to combat malaria, a new initiative is mobilizing Nigerian students to become ambassadors in the fight against the disease.
The Geneith Health Competition (GHC), organized by CEOAFRICA and sponsored by Geneith Pharmaceuticals Ltd., aims to empower young people to lead awareness and prevention campaigns within their schools and communities.
The competition, which is open to students from both secondary and tertiary institutions, is designed to be more than just a contest.
“The Geneith Health Competition is not just a contest but a movement that empowers youth to take ownership of their health and that of their communities,” said Prince Cletus Ilobanafor, Managing Director of CEOAFRICA.
Mr. Emmanuel Umenwa, the Managing Director of Geneith Pharmaceuticals, emphasized the crucial role of youth in this effort, stating that by providing them with knowledge, a strong network of health ambassadors can be created to drive lasting change.
The competition provides a structured platform for participants to raise awareness about malaria and promote effective prevention strategies. To motivate participants, the GHC offers substantial cash prizes, with awards reaching up to ₦15 million at the national level for students in tertiary institutions.
The prizes are tiered across state, regional, and national levels for three categories: Junior Secondary School, Senior Secondary School, and Tertiary Institutions.
With registration for the competition currently ongoing, the initiative aligns with global health goals and underscores the pivotal role that young Nigerians can play in addressing one of the country’s most significant public health challenges.
