Following a seven-day strike embarked upon by members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of the institution, activities at universities in Ondo State were grounded on Monday.
The Joint Action Committee of the two unions joined their counterparts nationwide on the warning strike to protest the Federal Government’s failure to pay its members four months of withheld salaries during their strike in 2022.
A Nigerian Tribune correspondent who visited the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) noted that the main gates of the institution were locked as early as 8 am, while the leaders of the unions prevented their members from entering their offices.
It was noted that the primary school section of the university was shut down following the strike.
Also, the chairman of SSANU in FUTA, Felix Adunbi, who confirmed that the strike was total, said, “We’ve grounded all administrative and technical services.
The chairman of SSANU of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, (AAUA) Ondo State, Comrade Tayo Ogungbeni, declared that the union of the institution complied with the directive of the national leadership of the union.
Also, their counterpart at the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, Dayo Damola, disclosed that “we are on strike because it is an injury to all of us.
Damola stated that any member who failed to comply with the seven-day warning strike would be dealt with, saying all the administrative offices and essential service sections of the universities were shut down.
