The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP) has threatened to embark on a nationwide strike if the Federal Government fails to meet its demands within the next 21 days.
The union, in a communiqué issued at the end of its 77th General Executive Council (GEC) meeting held at the Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Danbatta, Kano State, from August 26 to 28, 2025, expressed deep dissatisfaction with government’s handling of critical issues affecting its members and the polytechnic education sector.
Among the unresolved issues highlighted were the release of the new schemes and conditions of service, the constitution of the renegotiation committee for the 2010 agreement, the non-release of 2023, 2024, and 2025 NEEDS Assessment funds, as well as the payment of accumulated arrears.
These arrears include promotion arrears, 25/35 percent salary review arrears, wage awards, and the full implementation of the new minimum wage.
In the communiqué signed by Comrade Philip Adebanjo Ogunsipe, National President, and Comrade Shehu Nura Gaya, National Secretary, SSANIP accused the government of insincerity and neglect of the education sector.
“Council observed with great displeasure the insincerity of government in keeping to previous agreements or prioritising the education sector.
“Despite several efforts to ensure peaceful resolution of the above-stated demands, government has only paid lip service to the issues,” the statement read.
The union therefore demanded immediate action from the government within 21 days beginning from August 27, 2025, warning that failure to comply would leave it with no option but to withdraw its services across the nation.
