Strike: Schools, banks remain shut in Warri, environs

On Tuesday, schools and commercial banks in the twin locales of Warri South and Uvwie remained shut to students and customers.

Recall that the organized labour, led by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), embarked on an indefinite strike over last week’s assault on NLC President Joe Ajaero in Imo State.

Unable to access banking halls, customers, in their numbers, were seen making cash withdrawals from automated teller machines.

Long queues of customers were observed in most ATM galleries across Warri and Uvwie, waiting to collect cash.

Checks also revealed that primary and secondary public schools were under lock and key.

Like on Tuesday, the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), Warri Ports had its gates slammed shut with padlocks to prevent workers from accessing the facilities.

As expected, some pupils, to beat boredom, converted streets in the Agbassa area of Warri South Local Government into a football pitch.
