Strengthened intelligence gathering key to fighting crime — Sokoto CP

Published by

Sokoto state police command has said that it will sustain its professional drive of managing and strengthening its approach to intelligence gathering on crimes and general security situations.

“We are taking all criminal and security threats head-on”.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Kaigama, said in Sokoto while speaking to reporters on the command’s renewed approach to fighting crimes in the state disclosing that routine lectures were strategically conducted to drive responsive operations.

While noting that the command was on top of crime situations as the country was grappling with security challenges, Kaigama explained that the police in the state had been operating in line with global best practices and professionally towards securing public lives and property.

“We gather, manage, and monitor situations side by side with available intelligence and information dissemination on operations carried out by our officers and men.

“This has been yielding results with attendant support and cooperation of public volunteer information.

“We treat and gather useful information volunteered by the public in confidence.

” I can tell you that no source of volunteered public information ever regretted sharing information with the command on or before the occurrence of an incident”, he disclosed.

The Police Boss in the state pointed out that ” it will be unprofessional of the force to not reliably gather and make use of intelligence accurately while confirming incidences.

“All these cannot happen without encouraging atmosphere that promotes cordial police-public working relations,” he said.

However, Kaigama observed that rough terrains and remoteness of accessing some areas in the event of tackling crime were fundamental barriers to the operations of the command, thus delaying useful public information dissemination.

” We are strategically and constitutionally working for citizens to protect their lives and property but at times, we encounter these hitches.

“We need public understanding, media and nature of environment which are key to achieving successes,” he pointed out.
