Step-by-step guide to applying for Nigeria’s contactless biometric passport

The Federal Government has introduced a seamless way for Nigerians to renew their passports through the launch of a contactless biometric system in Europe, available exclusively for passport renewals and for applicants aged 18 years and above

This process can be done entirely online, eliminating the need to visit physical offices.

Below is a step-by-step guide to applying for the contactless biometric passport:

Step 1: Access the NIS Platform

Download the NIS app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

Alternatively, visit www.passport.immigration.ng on your browser.

Step 2: Complete the Eligibility Test

Check your eligibility by answering a set of questions on the platform.

Step 3: Input Your NIN and Current Passport Number

Provide your National Identification Number (NIN) and your current passport number to proceed.

Step 4: Fill Out the Application Form

Enter your personal information, including your biodata, and upload the required supporting documents. Ensure all details are accurate.

Step 5: Capture Biometrics with Your Mobile Phone

Use your mobile phone’s fingerprint scanner to complete your biometric verification. This replaces the traditional in-person capture process.

Step 6: Review Your Information

Double-check all details provided to avoid mistakes or delays in processing your application.

Step 7: Make Payment

Proceed to make the necessary payment online using a debit or credit card.

Step 8: Submit Your Application

Once all steps are completed, submit your application. After submission, your application will be processed, and the renewed passport will be delivered to the address provided.
