Hopes of legal practitioners who had planned to get briefs from aggrieved members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) aftermath of the recent state congresses have been dashed as they have been told unequivocally that their professional services are not needed and should therefore steer clear of the internal wrangling of the party.
The declaration was made on Monday by the Appeal Committee sent by the national headquarters of the APC to Bauchi State to listen to and sit on the complaints of aggrieved members of the party.
At the inaugural sitting of the committee at the next level secretariat of the party in Bauchi, the committee declared that lawyers are not allowed to be involved during the sittings of the committee.
Chairman of the committee, Mohammed Mabo Kassim, stated this while addressing newsmen on the commencement of the committee’s sitting.
He noted that a lawyer had stormed the secretariat on Monday with a petition but was asked by the committee to go back with the document and instruct his client to come before the committee himself
The committee chairman said that appeals and petitions within the party is like a family affair that does not need third parties therefore, the reason it decided not to allow legal representation during the course of its assignment.
He, however, promised that the committee will be fair and just to all by giving a good listening ear to all those that have grievances calling on all of the aggrieved members to consider themselves as one family.
While lamenting that it is unfortunate that PDP occupies Bauchi government house, the committee urged all APC members in the state to unite in order to be able to change the situation in the next general elections.
Mohammed Kassim, however, said that if no aggrieved member brings any petition before the committee between Monday and Tuesday, it would be assumed that there is no problem in the state and the committee will wind up and go back to Abuja to submit its report to the national secretariat.
It will be recalled that there was a parallel state congress of the APC in Bauchi State during which two factions chairmen and executive council members were announced, one led by Babayo Misau while the other is led by Sunusi Kunde.
