Again, state of LAUTECH hospital hits front burner at Oyo Assembly

The need for the Oyo State government to devote more attention to the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso and its outreach centre in Oyo town was again brought up at Thursday’s plenary of the state House of Assembly.

This followed a motion by member representing Ogbomoso North constituency, Honourable Wumi Oladeji on “Need to Save Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso and its Outreach Centre, Oyo, from Ultimate Collapse”.

In her motion, Oladeji decried low morale of staff owing to irregular payment of salaries, poor water supply, uninstalled equipment (MRI machine, CT scanner) and infrastructural facilities going decrepit.

She consequently prayed for prompt release of subventions, proper staff audit, and payment of contractors to supply and install equipments and requite funding to facilitate the completion of the Oyo outreach centre of LAUTECH hospital.

In his contribution, member representing Ibadan South 1 constituency, Mr Fatai Adesina prayed that a special fund be set aside a special fund to put in place the equipments and facilities needed in the hospital.

Chairman, Adhoc committee on LAUTECH hospital, Honourable Segun Ajanaku, hinted of findings by his committee that some contractors were being owed hence unable to supply cum install equipments.

Honourable Muideen Olagunju, representing Oyo East/Oyo West constituency, enjoined the executive arm of government to act, noting that the issue of LAUTECH hospital had been brought up at plenary for quite a number of times.

Noting that the Assembly had commenced investigation into issues facing LAUTECH hospital, the Speaker, Honourable Michael Adeyemo, mandated the House Committee on Health, headed by Honourable Silas Okunlola to submit its committee report on LAUTECH hospital, in the next two weeks.

Furthermore, the Assembly approved the state government’s request to access a special intervention in Agriculture that would enable farmer’s access to fertilizer.

The Assembly also adopted the report on the assessment of the operational readiness of the Oyo State Fire Services delivered by Honourable M. A. Sangodipe with specific call for increased funding, training and focus on welfare of staff of the Fire services.

Also, the Assembly deliberating on a motion by member representing Ibadan North 1 constituency, Honourable Bolanle Agbaje, noted the need for increased production by farmers to beat down prices of produce.

In her motion, Agbaje bemoaned high prices of farm produce, thereby calling for the resuscitation of Commodity Marketing boards and a Price Control mechanism.

Also, she called for the siting of silos in the three geopolitical zones and farmers’ markets where farmers sell directly to consumers.

Especially, the Assembly called for the involvement of more Nigerians in farming.

Governor Abiola Ajimobi also on Thursday signed into law the anti land grabbing law.
