The Central Council of Ibadan Indigene (CCII) and Ibarapa Consultative Forum have jointly presented a Memorandum to the National Assembly on the creation of Ibadan state.
The President General of the CCII, Barrister Ajeniyi Ajewole, disclosed this at a press briefing at Ibadan House on Wednesday.
He said various groups from Ibadan and Ibarapa axes of the state have resolved to work together to ensure that the creation of Ibadan state becomes a reality.
The creation of Ibadan state, according to him, is long overdue, hence the need for the various groups to come together to ensure that it comes to fruition.
“We are calling for the creation of Ibadan State. CCII, in collaboration with Ibarapa Consultative Forum, has submitted a memorandum to the National Assembly seeking for creation of Ibadan, which is overdue.
“And we have all that it takes to be a state in terms of human resources and others.
“When you are talking of business, Ibadan has a lot of engineers. And thank God we are getting cooperation from Oke-Ogun and Oyo. We have even heard a series of meetings on that.
“Ibarapa is fully with us. They are supporting the creation of Ibadan.”
On the newly passed amendment Bill of Oyo Chieftancy law, Ajewole appealed to the aggrieved lawmakers who were alleged to have worked out of the Plenary on Tuesday to have a change of mindset.
He described the amendment of the Bill as a welcome development, noting the impact that it would make on the traditional institution.
“The 10th Assembly has done the right thing with the passage of the bill. Their names will be written in the footprint of history.
“The lawmakers, with the passage of the bill, have given us peace and tranquility which will last forever.
“The bill is based on historical, Justice, and contemporary facts.
“Our appeal is that aggrieved lawmakers from Oyo should allow peace to reign.”
