Special Duties Ministry directors, heads of units sign performance contract

Directors and Head of Units of the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, on Wednesday, signed performance contract in a bid to uphold the highest standards of service delivery and continuous service improvement in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The contract was signed by the directors and head of units at the launch of the ministry’s Performance Management System (PMS), conducted by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Ibiene Roberts, on behalf of the Special Duties Minister, Zaphannia Bitrus Jisalo.

Speaking at the event, Roberts said the performance contract was meant to ensure transparency, accountability and efficiency in the ministry.

She asserted that in view of its diverse responsibilities, there was a need for the ministry to set clear targets, monitor its progress, and take decisive actions when necessary.

According to Roberts, “The concept of performance contract is not new, but it is a powerful tool in ensuring transparency, accountability and efficiency within our organization.

“In this rapidly evolving world, our responsibilities are diverse, and the expectations of the public and stakeholders are constantly changing. To meet these expectations, we must set clear targets, monitor our progress, and take decisive actions when necessary.

“This performance contract will serve as a roadmap that aligns our efforts, allowing us to work cohesively towards our common goals.”

The permanent secretary added that the performance contract is not only a binding agreement but a living document that must regularly be reviewed and adapted to changing circumstances.

“It is not a mere formality, but a tool that will guide us towards greater efficiency, better service delivery, and ultimately, the realization of our departments’ mission,” she said.

The Head, Press and PR of the ministry, Anastasia Ogbonna, informed that Theta Alpha Consult Ltd in collaboration with Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation provided the training for directors and the core team drawn from every department in the ministry to ensure sustainability and adherence to the tenets of the PMS.

She added, “The signing of the performance contract is expected to be cascaded down to all cadre and levels of staff in the ministry”.
