Sowore: Activists slam FG, DSS over continued incarceration

A coalition of Civil Society Organisation (CSO), on Sunday, slammed both the Federal Government and Department of Security Services (DSS) for their failure to release the presidential candidate of African Action Congress (AAC) in 2019 general elections, Mr Omoyele Sowore, despite two valid court orders served on them to do so.

It, therefore, told Nigerians and the international community that the duo should be held responsible if anything happens to him.

This was contained in a statement jointly signed by Comrade Deji Adeyanju for Concerned Nigerians; Lanre Legacy, Coalition for revolution and Sanyaolu Juwon, National Coordinator, TakeitBack Movement Campus Unit, and made available to Tribune Online in Abuja.

According to the statement, “Despite the embarrassing and unprofessional statement credited to the DSS, Nigerians, comprising of activists, lawyers, families, friends and citizens came out on Saturday morning to receive the duo. As expected but quite unfortunate, the DSS yet again failed to release them, under the excuse that we came on a weekend. The world is watching and we shall overcome.

“For the umpteenth time, the DSS has failed to release Mr. Omoyele Sowore and Olawale Bakare despite two valid court orders served on them to do so.

“Consequently, we wish to inform the general public that we will once again be present at the DSS headquarters on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, to receive both Sowore and Bakare. The government should be held responsible should anything happen to the duo. It should be noted that Sowore since two days ago has been on hunger strike; he has refused to take anything, not even water; protesting the violation of his rights by the Buhari government,” the statement added.
