The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Southwest has commended former governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, for calling out the President Bola Tinubu-led federal government over the deplorable conditions of roads in the state and the state of the nation’s economy.
Fayemi had in a viral video while speaking with the All Progressives Congress (APC) recently, lamented over the deplorable conditions of federal roads and the mismanagement of the economy, leading to widespread hunger in the land.
The zonal publicity secretary of the PDP, Chief Sanya Atofarati, in a statement made available to Nigerian Tribune on Thursday, lauded what he described as “a rare display of courage and sincerity in speaking truth to power, as a reflection of the true Ekiti spirit, principled, disciplined, and people-driven.
The PDP spokesman noted that the concerns raised by the former governor, who is a leader of the ruling APC, confirmed what the people of the country are facing under the present government, ” which has become synonymous with hardship, failed promises, and economic mismanagement.”
Atofarati said, “Fayemi has demonstrated uncommon courage by rising above partisan sentiments to speak the minds of millions of Nigerians. This is a rare trait among APC leaders, and we commend him for choosing integrity over political convenience.
“He has proven himself a true son of Ekiti, not one swayed by stomach infrastructure, but by conscience and compassion.
“Only those suffering from integrity deficit can still applaud this maladministration, while many of those who brought the Tinubu government to power now live in regret. Nigeria has been hijacked by a cartel of power mongers who are disconnected from the realities of everyday Nigerians.”
The PDP called on all Nigerians, irrespective of party affiliation, to come together in salvaging the country from the government, which he said has failed the masses.
“Fayemi has taken a bold step. We urge other leaders of conscience, within and outside the APC, to emulate his example. The time to rescue Nigeria from her hijackers is now.
“As PDP, we reaffirm our commitment to championing the voice of the people and working with all patriotic Nigerians in the quest for a government that prioritises the welfare of its citizens over the comforts of those in power,” the party said.
