South Korean actor, Yoo Ah-in, bags one-year jail term for drug abuse

One of the high-profile South Korean actors, Yoo Ah-in, has been found guilty of illegal use of anaesthetic drug propofol and bagged a one-year jail term for drug abuse, the Yonhap news agency reported on Tuesday.

Yoo Ah-in is known for playing diverse roles in both television and film, where he often portrays dynamic characters which exhibit his personal growth.

Nevertheless, he was found guilty of taking Propofol illegitimately and then sentenced to one-year imprisonment.

The drug “Propofol” is an intravenous anaesthetic used for procedural sedation, during monitored anaesthesia care, or as an induction agent for general anaesthesia. The drug can be abused, more often with the involvement of medical professionals who may be willing to provide it without a legitimate clinical need.

Yoo Ah-in was found deemed guilty of all his purchases for habitual drug use,” the court stated in its ruling, according to Yonhap News TV.

A doctor who administered propofol to Yoo without a proper prescription was also fined $30,000.
