Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), South-East chapter, have called for the suspension and prosecution of the party’s National Vice Chairman from the region, Chief Ali Odefa.
The leaders, in a statement signed by their spokesman, Chief Michael Ohakwe, accused Odefa of “criminal subversion of the PDP Constitution”.
“The recent events surrounding the misleading and disreputable meeting of the South-East Zonal Executive Committee, orchestrated by Chief Ali Odefa, regarding the status of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary of the PDP, have brought significant embarrassment not only to our party but also to the entire South-East region,” the statement said.
They stated further that it was regrettable that “a high-ranking national officer of our party would resort to misquoting and misrepresenting the PDP Constitution and Electoral Guidelines through national media channels solely to further his own selfish agenda.”
The chapter added that the party’s National Vice Chairman from the South-East lacked moral character and integrity to represent the interest of the region.
“Therefore, we demand immediate disciplinary action be taken against him, as well as any other party leaders involved in this egregious act, in order to serve as a deterrent against similar misconduct in the future.
“We wish to reaffirm our unwavering confidence in the leadership of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the authentic National Secretary of the PDP. His commitment to the party’s values and principles remains steadfast, and we stand firmly behind him.
“In light of the gravity of Chief Odefa’s actions and their detrimental impact on our party and our region, we implore the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP to swiftly suspend him pending further investigation and legal proceedings,” the statement added.
