The governors of the five South East states have expressed their appreciation for the efforts of security agencies in restoring peace to the region.
They emphasized that the collaboration between security agencies, governments, and the people of the region has contributed to the gradual return of normalcy.
This was revealed in a communiqué read by Senator Hope Uzodimma, the Imo State Governor and Chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum, after a meeting held at the Enugu State Government House.
The meeting included Governors Peter Mbah of Enugu State, Charles Soludo of Anambra, Alex Otti of Abia State, and Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi.
The governors reiterated their commitment to establishing common socio-economic and security cooperation in the region through an upcoming summit.
They stated that individuals involved in causing insecurity and those supporting them are criminals, not legitimate agitators, and should be treated as such according to the law.
Addressing the media, Uzodimma distanced the unrest in the region from Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, asserting that Kanu had disassociated himself from those using his name to perpetrate crimes like enforcing sit-at-home orders.
He emphasized that the governors would continue to work diligently to maintain the growing peace and security in the South East.
The communiqué also announced the Forum’s resolution to collaboratively combat insecurity, partnering with the Federal Government and other stakeholders.
The governors expressed their appreciation for the efforts of security agencies and urged them to persist in their work.
Furthermore, the South East Governors’ Forum disclosed plans to hold a security and economic summit, with the date to be announced soon.
