Sophia Momodu’s lawyers have reacted to a social media outburst by Nigerian afrobeat musician David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, after his announcement that he has withdrawn from the custody case of his daughter Adeleke Imade.
Tribune Online reports that Davido made the announcement late Friday, saying he had decided to discontinue the custody proceedings. He explained that he was never seeking full custody of Imade but only requested joint custody.
The Afrobeats star added that the case did not produce a winner, insisting the situation was only a loss for the child.
“I never asked for full custody … I asked for joint custody. Nobody won, nobody lost but Imade … so I don’t know why some pple r celebrating. There’s nothing to celebrate,” the singer wrote on X.

Explaining why he stepped back, Davido alleged that the matter took a painful turn during the court hearing, claiming that his late son was mentioned in the proceedings.
“I’ve decided to drop the case because … until she brought out her last card! MY DECEASED SON! THAT’S A NO NO! Lowest blow!” He stated.
The singer said his decision was driven by his responsibility as a father and expressed hope that his daughter would understand his efforts in the future.
“My daughter will grow up knowing I fought for her … let’s move on. One love!” he wrote.
Davido also shared a message on his Instagram story, where he criticised the opposing legal team and accused them of acting unprofessionally in court.
“I disgraced you in the courtroom … I was teaching you your work … and then went on to mention my son. Like I said in the courtroom, I pray you never go through what me and my wife have gone through ever,” he posted.
His comments came after a Lagos-based lawyer, Maruf Muhammed, posted on social media about what he described as tense moments during proceedings at the Lagos State High Court, Yaba.
“Davido in High Court, Yaba now! Come and see drama in court. The lawyer made 001 lose his patience during cross-examination o! Be you never so high, the law is above you,” Muhammed wrote.
He later clarified that the matter was connected to the custody case involving Davido’s daughter, Imade.
Following the online reactions, the law firm representing Imade’s mother, Sophia, released a statement defending its conduct and warning against harassment or intimidation of its legal practitioners.
In the statement dated February 16, 2026, the firm said it had observed inflammatory comments linked to the custody matter, which it noted is currently before a court in Lagos State.
“That matter is subjudice. It will be decided by the court alone, on evidence and law, and no amount of media commentary will sway that process or our approach to the case,” the firm stated.
The firm said it would not comment on the details of the case but stressed that threats or harassment directed at lawyers could undermine the justice system.
“However, if legal practitioners are to be threatened, intimidated, or exposed to harassment outside the courtroom for asking questions, testing evidence, or discharging their professional duty to their clients, then the very foundation of justice is imperilled,” the statement said.
The firm added that legal practitioners must be able to carry out their duties without fear, warning that any attempt to intimidate counsel would be resisted.
“It will not begin with us,” the firm declared.
It also called on the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and lawyers globally to condemn what it described as a violation of professional conduct.
