The governor of Sokoto State , Dr Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, has on Friday announced the allocation of funds for the commencement of the payment of sum of 70,000 naira new minimum wage effective from January, 2025.
Aliyu, while presenting the 2025 appropriation bill to state house of assembly on Friday, announced that his administration is ready to adopt 70,000 naira as the new minimum wage.
The governor in his remarks said, “while expressing sincere appreciation to civil servants of the state for their support to the present administration, it is in this regard, I feel highly delighted to announce that we will implement new minimum wage of N70,000 by January 2025.”

Meanwhile, following the announcement, the Nigerian Labour Congress, in the state has ruled out joining the proposed national strike of the union.
Speaking with our correspondent on the next line of actions, the secretary of the labour union in the state, on Saturday said the union has withdrawn from the proposed strike action.
He said, “we are not joining the strike action, the representative of the labour union and that of the state government has signed a memorandum of understanding on the implementation of the new minimum wage.
“We have agreed on the implementation and the commencement period, so we are not embarking on strike.
“We will make our agreement known to the public soon but no strike action in Sokoto ” he affirmed.
