THE United States Secretary of States, John Kerry, has revealed his excitement on his visit to Sokoto State, which he described as “a place of faith, tolerance and scholarship.”
Mr Kerry was received by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar and governor of the state, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwa.
While addressing a team of traditional rulers and government functionaries on unity and combating terrorism, Kerry stated that “By empowering and engaging citizens we can build strong, resilient communities that work together to combat terrorism.

“When women are educated and more empowered, societies are more productive, more democratic, more inclusive and more prosperous,” he wrote on his Twitter page.
The United Stated Secretary of States also brought to memory a quote of the first premier of Northern Nigeria, Alhaji Ahmadu Bello, saying “It is by understanding our differences that we can build unity.”
Mr Kerry is expected to visit the Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari, to discuss pressing national issues between Nigeria and the United States.
