The Sokoto State Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has announced the death of its Financial Secretary, Ibrahim Mohammed Goronyo, who died Wednesday night after a brief illness.
Goronyo, a correspondent with Al Jazeera and Standard Times, was described by colleagues as a committed journalist whose death has left a significant void in the profession.
In a statement jointly signed by the chapel’s Chairman, Ankeli Emmanuel, and Secretary, Musa Ubamdawaki, the union said his passing was a huge loss to journalism in Sokoto.

“The late Goronyo was not just a colleague but an amazing individual whose presence ignited humour, stirred discussions and consistently produced strong story scoops,” the statement said.
It added that the deceased was known for his dedication to duty and active participation in chapel activities.
“He was honest and straightforward, always standing by the truth regardless of whose ox is gored,” the statement noted.
The chapel extended condolences to his family, colleagues, and associates, praying for Allah’s mercy upon his soul.
“We pray Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus,” the statement added.
The statement further disclosed that he will be laid to rest on Thursday morning in Arkilla, Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto State, in line with Islamic rites.
