The Sokoto State Government has invested N1.66 billion in essential drugs and Mama Kits, which were distributed to 244 Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across the 23 local government areas of the state.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, while speaking at the distribution event at Government House on Wednesday, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to accessible and affordable healthcare, particularly for women, children, and vulnerable groups.
He emphasised that quality healthcare remains a top priority, stating, “A healthy society is a wealthy society.”
“The N1.66 billion was allocated for the purchase of, essential drugs, Maternal and child health medications with Anti-helminthic and hematinic drugs”
Others include Misoprostol and chlorhexidine gel as well as Mama delivery kits

Governor Aliyu noted that the free healthcare program, first introduced by former Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, has been sustained.
“The program ensures pregnant women, children, and the elderly receive medical services at no cost, leading to increased antenatal care attendance and reduced maternal mortality rates in the state.
He however warned local government officials and healthcare personnel against diverting the medical supplies, vowing that anyone caught sabotaging the initiative would face serious consequences.
He also called on security agencies to ensure the drugs reach the intended beneficiaries.
Reaffirming his administration’s dedication to grassroots development, Governor Aliyu urged the people of Sokoto State to support government policies aimed at improving healthcare access.
