Sokoto State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the rehabilitation and safe return of residents displaced by recent bandit attacks in Tureta and Dange/Shuni Local Government Areas.
Deputy Governor Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir gave the assurance on Thursday during a visit to internally displaced persons (IDPs) currently taking shelter at the Tureta Local Government Secretariat.
Addressing a crowd of men, women, and children who fled their homes due to the attacks, Gobir promised swift action to restore normalcy.
“We are taking all necessary steps to ensure you return to your communities as soon as possible,” he said. “Government is working hand-in-hand with security agencies to curb the insecurity and restore peace to the affected areas.”
He reiterated the administration’s unwavering resolve under Governor Ahmed Aliyu to safeguard lives and property across the state.
“We will not rest until peace is fully restored,” Gobir stated.
To ease the hardship faced by the displaced persons, the Deputy Governor presented food items and cash support on behalf of the state government. He also encouraged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements to security operatives.
Earlier, Chairman of Tureta Local Government Area, Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar Tureta, said the recent surge in bandit attacks had forced several residents to flee their villages, taking refuge at the council secretariat and in Lambar Tureta.
He appealed for the establishment of permanent security posts in Kuruwa, Lambar Tureta, and Tsamiya communities to boost residents’ confidence and deter further incursions.
Also speaking, Hon. Nasiru Shehu Bobo, Member representing Bodinga/Tureta/Dange-Shuni Federal Constituency, commiserated with the displaced residents and commended the state government’s prompt response. He said efforts were underway at the federal level to strengthen security operations and mobilise humanitarian support.
At the Dange/Shuni Local Government Secretariat, Council Chairman Alhaji Aminu Magaji Bodai described the attacks as recurrent, especially during the rainy season, and called for the establishment of a military base in Dabaghi to enhance rapid response.
He lauded the state government for its continued support and pledged full cooperation with security agencies and stakeholders to restore peace in the area.
