The Sokoto State Government has distributed foodstuffs, textile materials, and cash assistance to 9,200 orphans and needy persons across the state’s 87 districts in preparation for the upcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

Speaking at the distribution event on Thursday, Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto stated that the initiative, organised through the State Zakat and Endowment Board, aims to bring joy to vulnerable members of society during the festive period.

“As part of our commitment to social welfare, each district has produced 100 beneficiaries, with a total of 4,600 female orphans receiving wrappers and 4,600 male orphans receiving bundles of shadda. In addition, every orphan will receive 5,000 naira in cash, along with 5,000 naira for sewing,” the governor announced.

The food distribution includes 50 bags of 50kg millet and 50 bags of 25kg rice per district, while the State Zakat Office has also provided an additional 500 bags of rice and millet.

Governor Aliyu urged wealthy individuals to support orphans and the less privileged, emphasising that caring for the needy aligns with Islamic teachings and strengthens the social fabric.

He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to social welfare, youth empowerment, and poverty alleviation.
