The Sokoto State government has flagged off the distribution of 2024 State-led last-mile drugs to 650 health facilities across the state.
Speaking during the flagging-off ceremony, the State Commissioner for Health, Hajiya Asabe Balarabe, stated that the drugs were intended for malaria-supported sites and prevention of mother-to-child transmission sites.
According to the Commissioner, other recipients include family planning sites, tuberculosis, and leprosy treatment centres.
She emphasized that the aim was to ensure the availability of quality medicines, medical consumables, and clinical equipment in all health facilities across the state.
She said, “The state government, through the ministry, is committed to reducing morbidity and mortality due to communicable and non-communicable diseases to the nearest minimum, as part of its quest to ensure access to quality healthcare services.”
“I also appreciate their support in various activities to ensure that the public-procured commodities reach the beneficiaries across the state.”

Earlier in his welcome address, the Director-General of the Drugs and Medical Supplies Management Agency, Pharmacist Umar Attahiru, described the event as the first state-led last-mile distribution by the new management of the agency, marking a significant step in their commitment to improving access to healthcare for all citizens of the state.
He mentioned that the initiative is a collaboration between partners, the Sokoto state government, and the USAID Global Health Supply Chain Program – Procurement and Supply Management Project.
The Director-General assured that measures have been taken to ensure that the commodities reach the target beneficiaries.
