Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has empowered over 5,000 individuals with N50,000 each to embark on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
He made this known on Tuesday during the flag-up of an empowerment program for women held at the Government House in Kano.
Governor Yusuf reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to empowering women and youths to become self-reliant. He stated that the gesture was part of fulfilling his campaign promises aimed at making them self-reliant.
Governor Yusuf also disclosed that his administration was aware that small and medium enterprises are one of the major occupations of women, hence the emergence of the new super empowerment package across the 44 Local Government Areas (LGAs).

He added that 5,200 women would be empowered with the sum of N50,000 each monthly, selected from the 44 LGAs.
This administration holds women in high esteem and honor, hence more programs would be ushered in to uplift their well-being.
The governor urged the beneficiaries to make adequate use of the empowerment to engage in small and medium enterprises, geared towards ensuring economic development.
He also mentioned that, in an effort to uplift the well-being of women and the vulnerable, his administration has embarked on massive renovations of all the general hospitals in the state. Furthermore, the administration is providing free maternal care to pregnant women in the state to address maternal mortality.
