N OW, another top-notch Northerner and of revered royalty is saying something again to the rest of the nation. The “inside” within CBN is feeding Kano with bleeding tales of overdraft and under-credit, over-debit and under-declaration of our collective earnings.
The passenger sitting beside the driver almost jumped out of his skin when SLS allegation of sleaze against Buhari and CBN was loudly read to all. He possibly thought it was an old story until it got to the point of Garba Shehu, Buhari’s spokesperson, tackling SLS’s allegation with mere verbose grammar lacking in self-explanatory content. “Is this fraud under Buhari” the bewildered passenger bellowed, jerking his neck almost 360 degree to face the emergency news-reader. After receiving a confirmatory nod, he simply went into sleep, obviously fuelled by frustration. He didn’t utter a word for the rest of the short journey. Celebrated conscience of the nation don’t do more than that to national and individual psyche.
Between SLS and presidency, all the six persons in the cab believed the Emir. An enlarged polling on social media also believed SLS. That is a dangerous slide for PMB and his anti-corruption team, less than two years after kill-corruption-before-it-kills slogan got them into power.
There are aphoristic voices that wreck greater havoc than opposition parties. OBJ is one of them. He got Jonathan’s boat sinking before APC capsized it. SLS could singe-handedly bury Buhari’s 2019 project if the truth of the CBN overdraft, whether N1.3trillion or N4.5trillion, isn’t quickly made available to the public and PMB coming cleaning on what his administration did with it.
Instead of trying to poke SLS eyes through a pro-Buhari group’s subtle threat on how his grand-father was deposed, it is the heavy log in PMB’s eyes that CBN and Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun must try to roll away. SLS even behaves like he has no eyes to poke. President’s media minder, Femi Adesina says Buhari has capacity to do whatever he deems necessary. This trillion Naira alleged scam raised by SLS is deemed necessary for plausible explanation. Are we down same road again?
Concluded.
Re-Oyo Teachers
Your piece on the above issue refers. Your concern as well as that of others about the action of these teachers is justified. It sounds like one of the moonlight tales but we are confronted with the reality.
However, there couldn’t have been smoke without fire. Without being hypocritical questions need to be sincerely asked. Since the state government has decided not to pay salaries, I think the teachers are equally justified to diplomatically convey their displeasure to the government and the outcome is the results of public examinations from government schools in the state.
You asked for the whereabouts of the teachers of old, those sacrificial givers of knowledge and I ask where has the respect accorded them gone. Honestly, you can hardly find sincere teachers, who work conscientiously, in Oyo state today! There is no amount of preaching that can change the tide until teachers are accorded the needed respect and recognition as in those days. When salaries are not paid when due, where do you want them to get money to transport themselves to school? Since their salaries are irregular, attendance cannot be regular and performance cannot as well be regular. A hungry man is an angry man.
Where I fault them is the idea of “adalu “(muddled teaching scheme) where non-professional are teaching critical subjects. This should be reviewed. Teachers are no fools for God’s sake! Government is compelling them with series of threats creating tension to perform without salaries. Well, “bi a se gbon ni ile oko ni a gbon ni ile alarina” (wisdom exists at both the groom and go- between families). Also, “bi omo ba gbon ogbon kiku ninu eerun, baba re a gbon ogbon ko sin si eti odo” (if a child claims to be wise by dying during the dry season to make his father suffer, the father is equally wise to bury him beside the river). Thank you for appreciating the support and importance of teachers. It is different approach to issues depending on the methods of the one at the helm of affairs in the state. We have a governor who is full of himself without respect for anybody. He looks down on people as if he would be the first and last governor of the state. If the people of Oyo state want a change of attitude and approach from teachers, I think they should talk to their governor to be human. “A le fi tipatipa mu esin de odo, a ko le fi tipa fun esin ni omi” (you can force a horse to the river but you can’t force it to drink water). Yes, you reap what you sow, that is what the government and the public is reaping since the governor is known to be a rubbish sower. He sees teachers as a bunch of never-do-well who he can trample upon as he likes!
Thank you sir

Sir, I am not in any way supporting the ‘un-teacher’ attitudes of the teachers discussed in your article of Dec. 18th in Sunday Tribune but what do you expect in a situation where the teachers are not happy, not motivated, owed seven months salaries, hounded by sack letters etc. Presently, it is like teachers are in the battlefront and many unpalatable things happen during a war. May God save Oyo State.

Sir, I read your piece in Sunday Tribune concerning Oyo State teachers. Straight to the points. No teacher, I repeat, no teacher helps another teacher to cover up on missed lessons, let alone of Yoruba teacher helping Chemistry teacher to teach his subject. Second, NUT and teachers are not responsible for posting and employment of any teacher. If government found nine teachers in a school of 30 on nominal roll, it should ask TESCOM. Third, teachers are not super-human. If some teachers are not on duty, there is a cogent reason for it. Teachers have families, we fall sick and also have unforeseen circumstances that keep us away for our job. If these occur, don’t castigate teachers. Thanks.
