The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), the apex sociopolitical youth group in the South East geopolitical zone has urged President Bola Tinubu to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to end the sit-at-home situation in the South East zone of Nigeria.
The group frowns at a situation where individuals use the incarceration of Nnamdi Kanu to inflict pain, hardship and economic stagnation in the South East zone.
In a statement issued in Owerri on Tuesday by the President General of COSEYL, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, he said that the release of Nnamdi Kanu is crucial to the economy and security of the zone and the nation at large.
Ibem expressed serious concern over the incessant sit-at-home orders via social media platforms from different individuals and groups ordering people to leave their legitimate businesses, work and means of livelihood and stay indoors doing nothing.
According to him, the orders come from unknown persons through voice notes and videos and people are terrified of obeying such orders to the later.
He said: “We cannot continue this as a people. this madness must stop forthwith. The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Simon Ekpa have publication distancing themselves from the purported 2 day sit-at-home order.
“The question now begging for answers is, Who then is behind the sit-at-home order that brought government and private businesses to a halt for 2 days?.
He said, ‘the madness of somebody waking up from sleep and making a voice note ordering people to stay indoors must stop. This is a joke taken too far.
“An injury to one, is an injury to all as the saying goes, when South East is bleeding, the other parts of the country is also affected in the process.
“The proponents of the ill-fated sit-at-home orders circulated an old video of vehicles on fire that happened in 2022 claiming that it happened on Monday 22 October, 2024 in Okigwe, Imo State. Such false information can set the nation on fire hence the need to set Nnamdi Kanu free in order to put this shenanigans out of business.”
The youth body appeal to President Bola Tinubu to consider the release of Nnamdi Kanu from DSS custody in other to put a stop to all forms of economic sabotage which are injurious to the growth and development of the nation.
