Shun wasteful spending, Muslim cleric charges Nigerian leaders

A Muslim cleric, Sheikh Jamiu Sanusi (Amin Olorun), has enjoined Nigerian leaders to distance themselves from back bitting, gossips and wasteful spending, saying that a leader is like a lamp that cannot see its base

Besides, the Muslim cleric also charged obas in the land to maintain their royal integrity and refrain from questionable practices, calling on Muslim faithful across the country to be very close to God and pray fervently, just as he frowned against fanaticism as, according to him, it is not allowed in Islam.

Sheikh Sanusi made the call on Tuesday at the 11th Annual Ramadan Lecture, organized by the Chief Promoter of Olokun Festival Foundation (OFF) and Aareonakakanfos of Yoruba land, Iba Gani Adams.

Speaking at the event, which took place at Oodua House in Ikeja, Lagos, and attended by Iba Adams, Chief Gani Kayode Balogun, Prof. Kolawole Raheem, Chief Yinka Oguntimehin, Chief Dauda Asikolaye, Chief Kazeem Adewale, Sheikh, who was the Guest Speaker, said a leader must be wary of revealing too much about himself and giving out too much information about himself.

Others in attendance were Chief Sakiru Adebayo, Chief Esther Oyebola, Chief Mrs. Adegbayike Ishola, Chief Olawale Mann; Sheikh Saliu Mumuni, Sheikh Musa Ibrahim, among others.

The cleric, however, admonished all brethren to be steadfast in their belief in God and refrain from the position of unbelievers, calling on all NIgerians to identify their differences and resolve the problems troubling the country.

Sanusi commended the Yoruba generalissimo for his efforts, urging him to continue with his good deeds and seek corrections where necessary.

The Muslim cleric, while admonished Iba Adams to recruit truthful and trustworthy people into the Congress, urged him to pressurise and liaise with the Federal Government to stamp out kidnapping and other vices in the country.

In his address, Iba Adams paid tribute to the foremost Islamic scholar, the Late Sheikh Ajani Bello, saying that he contributed massively to his life and was one who encouraged his first sojourn to Mecca.

“The Late Sheikh Ajani Bello was one who encouraged my first sojourn to Mecca and contributed massively to my life,” he said.

The Yoruba generalissimo, while expressing his appreciation to the Guest Speaker, Sheikh Sanusi (Amin Olorun), who he said had participated at the Foundation’s Ramadan lecture for the past five years, also appreciated all the Sheikhs in attendance, including Sheikh Saliu Mumuni and his family for equally featuring at the annual event for same number of years, affirming that Foundation and the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) under his leadership were “firm believers in God and observe piety and fasting.”

“I want to express my appreciation to Sheikh Jamiu Ajadi Sanusi (Amin Olorun), who has participated at the Foundation’s Ramadan lecture for the past five years.

“I equally appreciate all the Sheikhs in attendance at this year’s lecture, especially Sheikh Saliu Mumuni who has contributed immensely to the lecture for the past 5 years and to his family. I want to state that the Foundation and OPC are firm believers in God and observe piety and fasting,” he assured.
