Godwin Emmanuel Ifeanyi aka “ShugaVybz” has joined the list of Grammy-certified songwriters from Nigeria.

Over the weekend, Davido celebrates his first Grammy nomination at 66th Annual Grammy Awards, which earned ShugaVybz a Grammy certification from The Recording Academy for his contribution to Davido’s studio album ‘Timeless’, as a composer on track 8 – titled “Away”.

Shugavybz hails from Ebonyi State and was raised in Lagos State at Ojodu-Berger, in a household of 6 siblings (as the first child). He drew a lot of his influence from his father who loved listening to 80s and 90s music, while growing-up.

Shugavybz has a lot to celebrate this weekend and has made a name for himself since he produced Majeeed’s breakthrough single “Yawa No Dey” in 2021, to producing and writing for Iyanya, Diamond Platnumz, and Davido, to name a few.

The producer who also established himself as a sought-after top producer and songwriter in the Afrobeats scene from Nigeria, following his accomplishment on Davido’s fourth studio album ‘Timeless’.
Shugavybz who began his musical journey at the age of 21.

Currently signed to Godboy Empire, which is also responsible for Shugavybz’s bookings.

He has production, and songwriting credit on “One Side”, “Sweet Argentina”, “Woman”, and “Sinner” by Iyanya, “Away” by Davido, “Dealer Man” by Godboy, “Go” by KCee, and “My Baby” and “Pounds” by Diamond Platinumz. Shugavybz doesn’t look like he plans on stopping anytime soon as he discusses his essentials, goals, and more!

You’re a top-tier Nigerian producer, tell us about some of the legends that might have influenced your sound and the way that you create music.

Music is a natural gift in my family, and I grew up listening to the music my dad played so it was mostly the influence I had.

What was your reaction when you learned that “Away” had gone 2x platinum in Nigeria?

I was so happy; it was good news, and I celebrated it.

Afrobeats has broken into mainstream pop. How does it feel seeing your contribution to Timeless studio album breaking charts and earning Davido his first Grammy nomination?

TIMELESS is an amazing body of work, I was so happy to be part of it, Grammy is a dream for all music personalities.

Who came up with the concept behind the lyrics in “Away”?

Writing is a team work in my camp, though I made major contributions to the lyrics.

Do you have anything else you want to say to the people?

Yeah, it might take a while but don’t quit, and also my song “Kele”, is out on all streaming services.
