Shaibu’s projects inspection breach of privacy — Hon Nehikhare

Published by

Acting on behalf of the Edo State Government, the Commissioner of Communication and Orientation in the state, Honourable Chris Nehikhare, on Monday described the court’s reinstated deputy governor of the state, Comrade Philip Shaibu’s inspection of the Radisson Hotel and other projects in Benin as a breach of privacy.

Hon. Nehikhare, who stated this through a press statement he personally issued and made available to journalists in Benin, said that Shaibu’s actions represent a significant breach of privacy for the private sector in Edo.

He said, “The Radisson Hotel Project is a public-private partnership (PPP), where the private sector holds the majority equity.

“As such, these investors have the right to pursue legal action against Philip Shaibu for infringing upon their private space.”.

Speaking on the possible legal implications of the embattled deputy governor’s action, the Commission for Communication and Orientation noted that, “We recognise that Philip Shaibu’s limited experience in the private sector may hinder his understanding of the legal risks associated with his actions.

“It is important for him to acknowledge that, as a private citizen, he must conduct himself in a manner that respects the rights and privacy of others in accordance with the law’.

He maintained that the state government is dedicated to ensuring the security and safety of businesses and investments within the state.

“We will provide the necessary support for any investor whose rights or privacy has been violated, empowering them to seek redress.

“This commitment aims to bolster investor confidence and ensure that businesses can prosper without fear of interference.

“We urge the private sector in Edo State to disregard the actions of the impeached deputy governor and to have confidence in the protection of their investments under the laws of the state”, he assured

It would be recalled that Comrade Philip Shaibu on Monday defied statements from the state government as he inspected some ongoing projects executed by Governor Godwin Obaseki’s led administration in the state.

“I am deputy governor, and my role is clearly defined. I will be going around in the next two weeks, starting with Edo South, then Central, and then North, to check what we have done.

“A new sheriff is in town, and we must hand over to him. That’s where we are. I am doing my work as deputy governor of Edo State.

“My own duty as deputy governor is to discharge my duties as deputy governor. I have come to inspect what is going on here at the museum,”  Shaibu claimed while inspecting some of the projects on Monday.
