Shagari cautions PDP on candidates’ imposition

pdp logoPEOPLES Democratic Party (PDP) Rescue Group led by former Minister of Agriculture, Alhaji Mukhtar Shagari, has cautioned the party against acts capable of jeopardizing its new-found harmony such as imposition of candidates.

In a statement made available to the media in Abuja on Tuesday, it maintained that the party needed to build upon its successful non-elective national convention.

It was positive that the convention remains a turning point following the Supreme Court judgment which reinstated the National Caretaker Committee (NCC) to the leadership of the party.

The PDP Rescue Group applauded the successful convention and commended the caretaker committee and the convention planning committee of the party for a successful convention.

It expressed the belief that it was the right step in a positive direction and was optimistic of a new brand and well managed democratic party.

The group while supporting the resolutions of the convention, suggested free, fair and transparent congresses for the seven states the convention dissolved their executive committees.

It said that it had assessed the performance of the caretaker committee with great optimism and appraised the resolutions at the convention.

The group further suggested that NCC should appoint people of unquestionable integrity to the various state committees to be duly charged with the responsibility of conducting new congresses.

It further suggested that wide consultation should be done with a view to having all-inclusive process for stakeholders.

“With the new direction of a democratic governance for the party devoid of impunity, corruption and imposition, we urge party members irrespective of status to abide by the constitution of the party and its rules and regulations,” the statement said.

The group appealed to party members to exhaust all available processes within the party in resolving all disputes and grievances rather than turning to courts for injunctions in little matters that could be fairly resolved in the best interest of all parties concerned.

It congratulated all party members and the caretaker committee for a successful convention.
