OMITUNTUN initiative in Diaspora, one of the major supporters of the Oyo State people Democratic Party standard-bearer, Mr Seyi Makinde, has staged an essay competition for youths as part of its effort to empower and redirect the focus of the youth of the state for positive growth.
The initiative is aimed at complementing the vision of the PDP candidate, in transforming the state, as well as equipping youths with necessary socio-economic and educational and skill for future career development
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the winner of the competition will get N75,000; second prize will be received with N50,000 and the third prize will get N25,000.

Seven runners-up will be given consolation prices, just as all winners will also be given a certificate of honour and recognition by the organisation.
According to the group’s spokesperson, Ayotomiwa Adebayo, the essay competition tagged: OID Seyi Makinde Public Policy Essay Competition is targeted to build an enlightened community of citizens committed to raising an army of young, vibrant resourceful and focused future leaders that will take the mantle of leadership and propel Oyo State to the next phase of developmental revolution.
“This initiative is an extension of the many philanthropic acts of Seyi Makinde. The youths form a critical mass of the labour manpower and the human capital for meaningful development in the state and cannot be relegated to the background.
This is why we came about this initiative, to create a robust platform for entrants from various tertiary institutions, to make submission advancing the role of youth in the development of Oyo State,” he said.
The essay topic is ‘Youth in Oyo State Development: Which Way Forward?’ or ‘Political Apathy; The Harbinger of Democratic Doom,” while the deadline for submission is 12 midnight January 31.
Also, participants must be residents of the state and students of a tertiary institution or college within the state.
Other requirements include the provision of matriculation number or state code of participant. The essay must be supported with one viewpoint and in the English language alone, and a maximum of 1500 words. Participants are expected to provide the necessary information as indicated in the form.
The release also stated that “In-depth understanding of the topic, creativity, originality, depth of research, and real-life application and applying the essay to the Oyo State situation and focusing on a specific sector will attract points.
