Senator Yar’adua denies misuse of N200m palliative funds

The Senator representing Katsina Central, Andul’aziz Musa ‘Yar Adua, has silenced critics who accused Northern politicians of cornering N200 million from the federal government to purchase food items for distribution as palliative to their constituents.

He said the allegation is untrue, adding that on his part, his constituents would benefit from such palliatives before the Ramadan period, In Sha Allah.

The senator who made the disclosure at Kangiwa Square in Katsina metropolis has quashed the rumours that the Northern Parliamentarians pocketed the money meant for buying the palliatives.

Yar’adua explained that the escalation in prices of commodities forced the Federal Government to plan for the release of about 700 tonnes of assorted grains from its silos for distribution across the country in an attempt to cushion the current hardship being faced by the common people.

To that effect, according to him, the federal government would initiate a strong task force nationwide to oversee the distribution.

Senator Yar’adua therefore called on people to be patient and continue praying for succour, as, according to him, the federal government and Senate are currently making efforts towards evolving ways of curbing the hardships.

He called on marketers to fear Allah by being fair enough in regulating the prices of their commodities to enable consumers to buy at an affordable rate.

The Senator pointed out that escalating the prices of commodities by marketers at any cost for personal gain is a contravention of Islamic norms and values, hence the need for marketers to fear Allah by revisiting such trends if they want the country to be habitable.
