The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Labour, Employment, and Productivity, Senator Diket Plang, has strongly condemned the abduction and murder of the Ward Head of Shuwaka (Sarkin Shuwaka), Kyaram District, Garga Community, Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The senator also decried the latest attack on the Ikn’gwakap community in Mushere Chiefdom, Bokkos Local Government Area, where six people were killed on Sunday.
In a statement, Senator Plang, who lamented the wave of attacks in parts of his constituency, particularly in Bokkos and Kanam Local Government Areas, said the pathetic situation requires immediate attention from those responsible for maintaining peace and order.
“The manner in which the Ward Head was abducted and then killed after six days in captivity warrants a comprehensive investigation. It should not be regarded as just another incident. The heinous murderers must be apprehended and prosecuted as soon as possible.
“Enough of accepting insecurity as a norm. Those in charge of security must reorganise their responsibilities and be more determined than ever to root out all terrorists and other elements causing misery for innocent citizens.
“These undesirable forces terrorising Bokkos and Kanam, as well as other parts of Plateau Central, must be checkmated. On Sunday, six individuals were killed in the Ikn’gwakap community of Mushere Chiefdom in Bokkos Local Government Area. We cannot continue in this manner; all hands must be on deck to find a lasting solution to this recurring threat.”
He called for urgent synergy between security agencies and local vigilante groups in Kanam Local Government to track, apprehend, and bring the perpetrators of the Ward Head’s murder to justice, as well as those behind the killings in Mushere Chiefdom.
The senator representing Plateau Central Senatorial District further stressed that the security architecture of the state must be retooled and intelligence sharing strengthened.
Senator Plang sympathised with the bereaved families of both the Ward Head and those killed in Bokkos, praying for God to grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.
