The defection of Senator John Owan-Enoh representing Cross River Central Senatorial zone in the upper legislative chambers to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has elicited reactions from the people of the state.
Senator Owan-Enoh last weekend dumped the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) due to the crisis plaguing the party.
His defection was seen as a major blow to PDP, as Senator Owan-Enoh was one of the leading forces within the party in Cross River.
The PDP leadership in the state was reportedly shocked over Senator Owan-Enoh’s defection to APC.
A member of the state working committee of PDP who spoke on condition of anonymity said “Senator Owan-Enoh is one person we taught will remain in the party no matter the crisis, his decision to decamp during this trying moments is regrettable.”
The commissioner, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Cross River state, Mr. Sylvester Nsa while joining other APC faithful to welcome the senator into the party said the defection of Senator Owan-Enoh was a boost to APC in the state.
Mr. Nsa, an APC chieftain in the state expressed delight that the party in Cross River has continued to witnessed influx of ‘quality’ members into its fold, noting that the defection of Senator Owan Enoh (a serving senator) ‘is a clear indication of the acceptability of APC and a further proof of the confidence Nigerians have in the party.’
The commissioner urged the people of Cross River to continue to support APC, and assured that the party will convincingly win the forth coming local government elections in the state.
