The Senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, has distributed water pumping machines to boost irrigation farming in the senatorial district.
Senator Katung who donated Kaura local government area, said the gesture is aimed at tackling hunger and ensuring food security in the region.
Represented by his Senior Legislative Aide, Mr Wilson Iliya Yangye, Senator Katung said, “Empowering our people in the area of dry season irrigation farming will go a long way in ensuring food security and providing employment opportunities.”
The Senator urged the beneficiaries to use the items for the purposes they are meant for, and equally render help to other dry-season farmers within the locality.
The lawmaker revealed that the distribution of the water pumping machines to the beneficiaries followed a feasibility study of the area, adding that the distribution will go a long way in boosting the economy of Kaura Local Government Area.
In a remark, the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Kaura Local Government Area, Mr. Luka David, lauded the gesture by Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, especially as it targets youth in the area.
Mr David said although not all of the youth will benefit from the gesture in this phase of the program, similar gestures will be extended to others with time. He appealed to the people of the area to support the lawmaker to attract more dividends of democracy.
Speaking on behalf of other beneficiaries, Mr Cletus Monday, appreciated Senator Katung for his humanitarian gesture towards reducing poverty in Southern Kaduna.
