The Senator representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, Sen. Sunday Karimi, has completed a 288-seater Modern Digital Learning and Test Centre (CBT centre) worth N300 million at Titcombe College, Egbe, Kogi State.
Sen. Karimi, an old boy of Titcombe College, Egbe, said that, having realised the hardship faced by students in the area, he decided to partner with the Titcombe College Egbe Old Students’ Association (TCEOSA) on the project.
According to Sen. Karimi, the CBT centre is aimed at reducing the need for secondary school students from Egbe and the adjoining local government areas in the Okun-speaking region to travel to Lokoja or, in some cases, Ilorin, to register for and write CBT examinations, particularly JAMB.
Established in 1951 by missionaries, the modern CBT centre also has an adjoining 500-seater capacity chapel that can serve as a waiting area during examinations.
The facility, which Sen. Karimi described as a partnership between Titcombe College Egbe and TCEOSA, has been acknowledged by the community, traditional rulers and stakeholders as a first-class facility, meeting JAMB standards. It features a security fence within the school premises and CCTV monitoring systems.
Sen. Karimi, the Chairman of the Senate Services Committee, said that since his assumption of office in the National Assembly, his representation has been people-centred.
The newly built facility has an interior that has been carefully remodelled and upgraded while preserving decades of raw exterior beauty.
It also includes modern male and female conveniences with running water, high-speed Starlink internet, and access infrastructure with a reliable power supply, along with structured cabling to all desks.
The CBT centre, which has generated excitement among the people of Egbe and neighbouring local government areas in Kogi West Senatorial District, is equipped with fast widescreen laptops (Core i5) in private cubicles.
Similarly, the facility has large-screen displays (Smart TVs) on either side of the hall for non-examination use, such as online training and meetings.
To address power supply challenges and ensure smooth use of the facility, the centre is equipped with an inverter system powered by 90 solar panels (40.5 kW) and a 40 kVA soundproof diesel generator.
Recognising the importance of water in such a facility, Sen. Karimi also installed a water treatment plant to ensure clean, potable running water.
For the comfort of students and teachers, the CBT centre has ample ventilation, air conditioning and a bright lighting system — features the senator said are essential to creating a conducive learning environment.
According to the senator, the newly built facility, which cost over N300 million, is now completed and awaiting commissioning. He described it as a promise fulfilled and expressed gratitude to TCEOSA for initiating the project before he took over and brought it to completion.
