Senator Eteng facilitates solar-powered boreholes, street lights for Cross River communities

Published by

Dedicated to improving the lives of his constituents, Senator Eteng Williams, who represents the Cross River central senatorial district, has implemented solar-powered boreholes and street lighting in 27 communities.

Specifically, solar-powered boreholes have been established in 9 communities, while solar streetlights have been provided in 16 others.

These borehole projects are distributed across six local government areas within the district. The communities benefiting from the boreholes include Bendeghe-Ekiem, Ediba, Olulumo, Ababene, Ijom, Assiga, Aduma, Mkpani, Afaben, and Boje.

The solar-powered street lights have been installed in 16 communities, including Ekori, Ugep, Mkpani, Inyima, Assiga, Nko, Obubra Urban, Oderegha/Ovukwa, Offumbungha/Yala, Isobo Otaka, Isobo Biko-Biko, and Boki LGA (Wula Ekumpuo, Okwabang, Agba Osokom, Katchuan Irruan, Nsofang, Ajassor, and Adadama).

In a recent interview with journalists in Calabar, Sen. Eteng Williams emphasized that these solar-powered boreholes will provide sustainable water access, especially for communities facing water shortages.

He further explained that the solar-powered street lights align with the ‘Project Light Up Central’ Initiative, which aims to enhance social activities and nighttime life in the affected communities.

“This initiative reflects my campaign promise to bring development to our grassroots and improve living standards,” he stated.

“We are also collaborating with relevant federal agencies to introduce more development projects for our people. Our commitment is to restore hope at the grassroots level.”

“Water and electricity are essential for human life, which is why we are prioritizing these projects. This is just the beginning.”
