The Nigerian Youth Parliament Alumni Forum has called for constructive dialogue and mutual respect in the ongoing rift between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of the Kogi Central senatorial district.
The group, comprising youthful parliamentarians focused on youth concerns, emphasised that legislative engagements should reflect professionalism, decorum, and broader national interest.
In a statement signed by its convening president, Rt. Hon Ayodele John Obe, and convening secretary, Hon. (Dr.) Abdulrahman Umar Etudaye, the forum expressed concern over the recent developments in the Senate and urged all parties involved to embrace reconciliation rather than discord.
“As young leaders, we believe that a culture of respect and constructive dialogue is crucial for national development. The Senate, being one of Nigeria’s most esteemed institutions, must set an example of professionalism and inclusive governance,” the statement said.
The forum also commended Senate President Akpabio for his diplomatic handling of the situation while calling on the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions to reconsider the six-month suspension of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The group, which reaffirmed its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, highlighted the administration’s focus on economic growth, poverty eradication, and food security as steps towards national transformation.
The forum urged Nigerians, especially the youth, to uphold peaceful engagements in addressing disagreements, stressing that a stable and respectful legislative atmosphere is vital for the nation’s progress.
