THE South-East Senate caucus has condemned the alleged killings of members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) over a rally in support of the president of the United States (US), Donald Trump.
The caucus, in a statement made available to Tribune Online and signed by its chairman, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, demanded investigation into the incident by the Federal Government.
According to Abaribe, the fact that the security agencies applied force in an otherwise peaceful rally was reprehensible, adding that the development questioned an emerging pattern in the containment of peaceful assembly in the country.
“If the report of killings by the security agencies were to be confirmed, it would no doubt leave a gaping hole in the unity of this country.
“This is one regrettable action too many, coming against the backdrop of the recent report of the Amnesty International (AI) of mass killings of people from the same section of the populace in Nigeria,” the statement read.
