The Kano State Commissioner of Police (CP) Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has appealed to the state government to establish special courts to swiftly prosecute arrested thugs rather than detaining them for extended periods awaiting trial.
This was just as the state government, in its determination to nip in the bud the recent rising wave of innocent killing in the state by rival gang groups, has called for a collective effort of all stakeholders, adding that security cannot be achieved in isolation.

The CP Bakori made the call during a meeting with traditional rulers, security agencies, and the Kano State taskforce on peace restoration and youth rehabilitation.
He disclosed that 150 individuals involved in thuggery were arrested and dangerous weapons, illicit drugs, and stolen properties were recovered.
CP Bakori added that thuggery and drug abuse stem from socio-economic factors, lack of opportunities, and inadequate support systems.
The Kano CP , therefore, hinted that to combat this, he advocated for investment in education, vocational training, and recreational programs to engage young people and provide them with pathways to success.
He then disclosed the crucial role of traditional rulers in community policing, urging them to collaborate with divisional police officers to identify and address security threats.
“When we work together with people’s support and cooperation, there will be ‘no more Daba in Kano’,” he stated.
Speaking at the occasion, the state deputy governor, Abdussalam Gwarzo, representing Governor Abba Yusuf, reassured participants of the state government’s commitment to protecting peace and security.
He, therefore, stressed the need for synergy among citizens in fighting insecurity, acknowledging the dedication of security agencies and government functionaries.
Gwarzo emphasised that security is a shared responsibility, requiring robust collaboration among stakeholders, including security agencies, traditional institutions, and citizens.
“We are all key players in the pursuit of a peaceful society.
