Secret slaughterhouse linked to cattle rustling uncovered in Yola

Adamawa State Police Command has uncovered a secret slaughterhouse linked to cattle rustling in Yola, the state capital.

The success marked a major breakthrough against cattle rustling in the state.

Operation Farauta, a security task force combating crime in Adamawa State, said the facility was discovered inside a house said to belong to the former Commissioner for Women Affairs, Miss Lami Ahmed.

The operation, spearheaded by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit Sector 3, was launched after a herder reported that his cow had been stolen at midnight. Tracing the animal’s footprints led directly to the residence in Bachure, Yola North Local Government Area.

A visit to the scene revealed a slaughtered cow and a toilet converted into a dumping site for animal waste. However, upon sighting security operatives, the suspects reportedly scaled the fence and abandoned the slaughtered cow.

When contacted by telephone, Miss Ahmed declined to comment immediately, stating that she would address the matter on Sunday.

Efforts to reach the Adamawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report, as calls, SMS, and WhatsApp messages went unanswered.

The slaughtered cow was later taken to the Adamawa Police Headquarters, Yola, where an official statement was documented before the remains were released to the rightful owner.

A neighbour, Hon Chief Amarachuku, former chairman of the Bachure community, confirmed the incident, noting that some angry residents had attempted to storm the house before he calmed them and alerted security operatives.

The cow’s owner, Mallam Gagare, explained that he tracked his animal’s footprints to the house and urged security agencies and stakeholders to support him in seeking justice.

Authorities have confirmed that further investigations are underway to expose those behind the illicit operation and ensure they are prosecuted.
