Alhaji Tijjani Baraya, Chairman, Kano State School-based Management Committee, has urged host communities and other stakeholders to make it a duty to support public schools in their areas.
Baraya spoke on Tuesday in Kano at a Media Dialogue on School-based management committees organised by UNICEF.
He said that providing financial support to the running of community schools would complement the efforts of the governments towards providing qualitative education to the younger ones.

“A substantial number of out-of-school children in Nigeria will be reduced if communities and other stakeholders contribute to the running of public schools.
“Federal and state governments must also prioritise children’s rights to education so as to prepare them for leadership,” he added.
The SBMC chairman suggested improved school infrastructure and massive enrolment campaign to bring all children to school, calling on the three tiers of government to increase their budgetary allocation and release of funds.
Other measures, he said, included the recruitment, deployment and provision of incentives for teachers and deployment of more qualified teachers with modern learning facilities to rural areas, where they are most needed.
