SARS officials kill four armed robbers masquerading as Sars operatives

The operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (F-SARS) on Saturday killed four robbers parading to be security personnel of the outfit (F-SARS) at Ogbogoro community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

This is just as suspected Armed robbers operating around Oloabuchi area of Mile 2 Diobu, Port Harcourt City LGA, Saturday night, killed a policeman in the area, and shot one local vigilante member and other persons.

Report also has it that gathered that one member of the vigilante group and others shot in the encounter that claimed the life of the policeman have already been hospitalized.

Commander of F-SARS in Rivers State, SP Akin Fakorede, has confirmed the development, stating that his men cracked down on four man robbery gang that disguise as SARS men to rob their victims.

Fakorede said: “A four man  robbery gang  with their AK47 rifles impersonating  as SARS operatives met their end  on 16th December 2017 at Ogbogoro. The gang had gone to rob Mr. Wey Nwinanadun.

“They went to rob Nwinanadun  at his residence in Ogbogoro. the gang had previously robbed Port  Harcourt residence  at Ada George and Iwofe area of the City.

He affirmed: “SARS is determined to root out all criminal gang operating in the state  under  whatever  guise.

Fakorede revealed that the criminals were overpowered and killed by the SARS personnel whom they (the criminals) had engaged in crossfire.
He disclosed that it was the same gang that had early this year killed a taxi driver operating in the area, adding that they (the gang) had caused many havoc in the state.

He further disclosed that all the property stolen by the robbers have been recovered, noting that some of the victims had come to identify their property.

A source who hinted the development at Ogbogoro community, narrated that the fake security operatives had visited an area in the community to harass residents.

The source disclosed that the suspect had arrived the community with some property, television and other valuables, which had supposedly taken from their victim elsewhere before coming to Ogbogoro.


It noted that the fake F-SARS where intimidating one of their victims at Ogbogoro when a resident of the area called Ozuoba Police Station who alerted the commander of SARS.

It was gathered that when the F-SARS personnel entered the community and identified the individuals as fake, they gunned them down.

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, who confirmed the killing of the policeman at Iloabuchi area of Port Harcourt, stated that the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Zaki, has already lunched a manhunt on the culprits.

Omoni said that a lot other persons sustained bullets wounds, stating that the victims are receiving treatment.

He added that the police would not be deterred in its efforts towards exterminating crime in the state, noting that its men have been drafted to strategic locations to ensure effective policing of the state, especially during the yuletide.
