LAGOS State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has joined key players across the country’s aviation sector to call for the re-engineering and repositioning of the sector towards making it attractive to local and foreign investors for speedy recovery and growth development.
Sanwo-Olu made the call in the goodwill message delivered at the 25th International Annual Conference of the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC) held in Lagos.
In the message which was delivered through his Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotosho, the governor while acknowledging the debilitating effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the global air transport sector, urged the operators to be on their toes and refuse to be left behind of the strategies from the advanced economies of the world in order to quickly get out of recession.
Sanwo-Olu used the opportunity to call for caution on the dangerous trend among government aviation agencies rendering services even as he advised them to resist the urge of being driven by profit instead of impeccable service delivery, safety, security, and comfort of the consumers whose expectations he said were scheduled integrity through prompt take off and on the dot arrival.
He particularly appreciated players across the aviation sector and air travelers for their understanding during the various stringent measures rolled out by the state government to curb the spread of the devastating pandemic especially at the Lagos airport.
Such measures he named include: restriction of air travels and the control of entry into the number one gateway airport.
Sanwo-Olu attributed the Lagos State government’s resolve not to shift ground in the enforcement of the restrictions for the prevention and the spread of the pandemic which was imported to the country through the Lagos airport, to the fact that over 80 per cent of international arrivals into the country come in through the international wing of the Lagos airport.
According to Sanwo-Olu, the enforcement of the restrictions at the heat of the pandemic yielded fruits.
The governor, however, announced pledged to support the execution of any of the critical decisions that would be reached at the seminar especially those aspects that would positively touch on safety, commerce, industry and the socio-economic well-being of Lagosians.
