Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has mourned the passing of veteran Nigerian singer, songwriter, broadcaster and actor, Ms. Onyeka Onwenu, describing her death as a great loss to Nigeria, particularly the creative industry.
The veteran singer and actor, aged 72, according to reports, had just completed a performance at the birthday party of Mrs Stella Okoli, which took place on Tuesday, when she slumped and was rushed to the Reddington Hospital in Lagos, where she gave up the ghost.
Governor Sanwo-Olu said this in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, copy of which was made available to newsmen on Wednesday, saying that Onwenu would be sorely missed by family, friends, fans and political associates.
The governor extended his heartfelt condolences to the Onwenu family and the Nigerian entertainment industry on the passage, urging the deceased family, friends, associates, fans, and entertainment practitioners to take her death as an act of God.
Governor Sanwo-Olu prays to God for eternal peace for the departed and for Him to grant the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
